Dog Abandoned In Parking Lot With Heartbreaking Note
The Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas, received about 200 abandoned animals during Memorial day weekend. The shelter can normally house 150 animals. Each animal has its own cage, but with all the new ones they had to put between 3 and 4 animals per cage.
No one is sure what are the reasons why so many people decided to leave their pets during this holiday weekend. But McKeel believes that it is, most likely, due to financial difficulties caused by Hurricane Harvey.
After an exhausted weekend, on Tuesday, the shelter staff received a new member, but in a way that left them astonished.
Someone had abandoned a poodle dog in the shelter’s parking lot. He was in a cage.
The shelter was overcrowded with animals, but they could not leave the scared dog. He was tangled and dirty.
For the shelter staff, the most heartbreaking was to find a handwritten note on a notebook sheet attached to the dog’s cage.
The owner left a message saying:
“Can you please take care of my dog? He’s a great puppy, I just couldn’t afford to keep him. His name is Lee. He will listen, he will bark, and will not bite. Please don’t put him down I love him, but can’t afford to keep him. I haven’t shaved him yet, I apologize, but please care for him and find him a home. Thanks.”
After the shelter staff assimilated the sad case of Lee, they began to work on him. He finally received medical attention, a bath and a well-deserved cut.
Although the poodle at first was scared by the noise and all the movement in the shelter, after they groomed him, he began to show his true personality. Actually, he is not shy, he is affectionate and playful.
Lee adapted to the shelter, but will soon be in a forever home. Two families were interested in adopting him. The shelter will choose the best family for him.
