Dog Saved From Euthanasia Hugs His Rescuer On The Way To Freedom

Gregory is a Beagle dog that was found as a stray dog in Obetz, Ohio. Although it is impossible to know his past story, it is believed that he was abandoned by his owners.

Franklin County Shelter and Adoption Center in Ohio rescued Gregory from the streets. But, soon after, they discovered that poor Beagle was ill, his heartworm test came up positive.

So, the shelter staff were very sorry, but they put the dog on the euthanasia list.

The shelter had scarce resources to afford the expensive treatment Gregory needed. In addition they had many other animals to support.

The shelter set a deadline until which Gregory could be rescued from the shelter for treatment. If no one was willing to help him, the poor dog would be euthanized.

That was when Schenley Hutson Kirk and her husband Joe appeared in Gregory’s life. The couple is the founder of Hound Rescue and Sanctuary dedicated to rescue hunting dogs.

When Schenley learned about Gregory’s story, she knew she had to do something.

Her husband took the day off to go save Gregory. They did not expect anything in return, but the adorable dog surprised them.

On the way back home, Joe decided to take some selfies with Gregory who was in the back seat tied with the leash. The leash was just long enough so that he could reach Joe’s shoulder.

Joe sent his wife the photos as proof that Gregory was already safe. She could not believe her eyes.

The dog that they had been saved from euthanasia seemed to be very grateful to Joe since in one of the photos he was hugging him. Schenley said Gregory seemed to be saying ‘‘You saved my life. I knew I was going to die at that shelter, but you saved me today.”

Gregory is currently recovering very well from his illness at the Kirks’ house. When he is completely healthy, he will be sent to a forever home with a loving family.
