Orphaned Foal Finds A Rescue Dog Who Won’t Let Him Sleep Alone

Tye is a orphaned little foal who lost his mom at just 9 days old, but finds more than a sincere friendship in a rescue dog.

Zip, the Australian cattle dog was rescued by Karla Swindle. The 5-year-old rescue dog had never shown interest in the horses until he decided that Tye needed him.

“We raise foals every year, and he would…just look at them,” Karla Swindle said

It all happened when Tye’s mother became ill after giving birth. Even though she had treatment, she never get up again. In the last days of the mama horse, Karla stayed by her side and with her baby and as Zip follows Karla everywhere, he also accompanied them.

Karla explained to TheDodo that she spent the night taking care of the mother in the hope that she could get better. At the same time, Zip lay beside the foal.

One night Zip looked very anxious and was whining. Unfortunately, the next day, the foal’s mother died, but he was not alone.

Zip began to take care of Tye, comforting him with his presence. He really did it since when he was close, Tye was calm and happy.

“It seemed to me that the foal knew that the dog was trying to help him,” Karla said.

Every time Karla went to the barn, Zip was the first to go say hello to Tye. When Zip found Tye lying down, he quickly lay down beside him and put his head on him.

After several months, Tye grew strong and became a young and healthy horse. Much of his progress was thanks to the emotional support of his adoptive dad, Zip.

Now Zip accompanies Karla to the stable, but watch from afar as Tye learns the ins and outs of being a horse.

“You could tell that when the foal needed Zip, Zip was there for him,” Swindle said. “And now Zip knows that the foal is OK, so they kind of went their separate ways.”

It seems that Zip is a proud dad who understands that it is time for Tye to be independent, but that does not make his relationship less special.
